$6,200 to have everything done on the truck. Including some really simple stuff. The majority (3500) is suspension/ball joints/steering linkage and control arms. The rest is maintenance/leak repair.
The only thing I ended up paying for is some new wiring and brake hoses ($600). I can’t/won’t do anything brake or electrical.

It was nice of them to create a shopping list for you though.......

Yeah...I need to g
et the front
flex pipe of Humdrum’s exhaust replaced and the front rotors and pads. The shop quoted me $850 :(
The exhaust is just like...6 bolts and easy to get to! Contemplating doing it myself...

Exactly. And photos of what needs to be replaced. Well worth the inspection.

Yeah, ball joints/suspension I probably will pay for at some point. But valve cover gasket, belts, transmission gasket, and other things I can do myself... probably

3500 bucks for that suspension work , are you shitting me! If there isn’t a lotta rust/salt on the truck I would say DIY. Only issue coule be pressing in/out control arm bushings but if you buy new control arms, they may come pre installed with them.

I bet with an impact wrench you could replace the suspension in a day and then take it immediately for an alignment. Measure the exposed threads on the current tie rods, and just match that with the new ones. It will get you close enough to drive it a few miles. The parts are probably fairly cheap and it is all very simple under there.

Is your truck a diesel?

I just got new tires on my Volt, and the shop pointed out that it was time for new rear brake pads. For just the pads they quoted $450, and they said it would be another $250 if the rotors were too thin and needed replaced. The pads are less than $40 with shipping through Rock Auto. Pads and rotors will be about $120. Since I need rear shocks too I’ll just do it all at once.
I was curious if there was anything weird involved in the shock replacement, but I found a YouTube tutorial where it only took 20 minutes for one side even with extra time to explain what he was doing.

I don’t have an impact wrench, just a ratchet set
....or a garage...or a floor jack, just some ramps and the spare tire jack that came with my car....hoping if I do try and change the front flex pipe I can manage to do it with just those! :(

So like 2500 USD, seems fair :)

I couldn't remember. I asked because I had a Ram diesel, and I changed the ball joints myself... 0/10, would not recommend. A fully dressed Cummins engine weighs about 2000 lbs. The crankshaft alone weighs almost 130 lbs. They are obscenely heavy, and all that weight over the front axle makes sure all the ball joints are pressed in good and tight! I actually broke a ball joint press trying to get mine out.

Boooooo

Just front pads and discs for the LR were quoted at $1200. I did them myself for like $200. Shop prices for brakes are insane for some reason.

I just don’t understand it. Once the wheels are off it’s only two bolts to remove the caliper to swap pads, and one of those you just loosen and pivot the caliper up.
You know they’ll be using an impact set to maximum ugga duggas so it’s not like they’re fighting with rusty hardware.

Hey, I hate threadjacking, but I can’t find the post where you mentioned this. Do n’t you have a pair of Volvo Propus wheels you’re looking to get rid of?
